An innovative approach to language software for aphasia
Ken
Albrecht is a Borough Councilman in Haworth, NJ. (That's essentially like
being a City Councilman in other places.) He is one of the seven people
with aphasia we wrote about in our article on the Adler
Aphasia center.
He had had a stroke in 2005. He used SentenceShaper before his November
2006 re-election campaign, and he created sound files to prepare to discuss
the issues he knew voters would be interested in. He was re-elected, and
mentioned in a Wall
Street Journal article (November 28, 2006) about
speech recovery after strokes.
We were pleased that our SentenceShaper software was mentioned in the same article. (They spelled it as two words, Sentence Shaper. )
That's Ken on the right.
If your computer has a sound card and can play mp3 files, you can hear a comment from him about using SentenceShaper by clicking the Play Button below. (It will play in a new browser window, so after it's over, just close it and this page will still be here.)
Thanks to Ken for providing us with the quote and the photo. It's always good to be able to counter the limiting stereotypes about life with aphasia. CBS must have thought so too -- Ken was filmed by CBS News while he was practicing his oath for office using SentenceShaper.
